Mālama Hawaiʻi

Mālama Hawaiʻi is the visitor-facing programme: opportunities suitable for people visiting the islands, run by organizations certified for it. A hotel, a visitor bureau, or a travel site embedding the widget usually wants this feed and not the general one.

Restricting a feed to it

Two ways, and they answer different questions:

• Restrict the feed. The widget can be set to show only Mālama Hawaiʻi organizations, and then nothing else ever appears. This is what a visitor-facing page wants.
• Offer it as a filter. The widget can show a certified toggle that a visitor presses themselves, on a feed that otherwise shows everything. This suits a site with both local and visiting audiences.

Both are switches in the embed builder . Setting the feed to Mālama-only makes the toggle pointless, so the builder leaves it out in that case.

Becoming certified

Certification is per organization, and it is granted by Kanu Hawaii rather than set by the organization itself. If you run an organization and want visitors sent to you, apply from your organization dashboard.

Marking an opportunity visitor-ready

Certification says the organization is suitable. The opportunity still has to be: a shift that needs a truck and a week of training is not one a visitor can join. Each need has its own visitor-ready flag, so a certified organization can offer some of its opportunities to visitors and not others.
