Campaigns

A campaign is a themed collection of opportunities from several organizations at once, with a page of its own. Campaigns in the header opens the list at needs.kanuhawaii.org/campaigns , and each one lives at a readable address such as /campaigns/volunteer-month-hawaii.

Three of them run every year: Volunteer Month Hawaiʻi, E Ala E for Earth Day, and Give Back December. Others appear when there is something to respond to.

What a campaign page shows

  • The banner, with the campaign’s name and a line about what it is for.
  • Progress towards its goals, as bars. See below for where the numbers come from.
  • The opportunities, as cards you can search, each opening the full listing with its usual signup.
  • Who is taking part, the organizations approved onto the campaign.
  • Resources, when the campaign has them: hotlines, intake forms, shelter lists, a donation page. On a phone a phone number in that list is one tap.

The last two sit in a column beside the opportunities, and are left out entirely by a campaign that has neither.

Where the progress bars come from

Two kinds of number, and the difference is worth knowing when you are reading one:

GoalHow it moves
Hours, volunteers, signupsCounted from the platform itself: approved hours and real signups on the campaign’s opportunities.
Anything elseReported by the participating organizations and checked by Kanu Hawaii before it counts.

A campaign can also carry a starting figure an administrator set, for work that happened before the campaign existed or through partners who are not on the platform. That figure is added to what the platform counted rather than replacing it, so the bar keeps moving as people turn up.

A campaign with dates counts only what happened inside them. One without dates counts everything.

Signing up

Exactly as anywhere else. A card on a campaign page opens the same opportunity page with the same signup form, run by the organization named on it, and it lands in your My RSVPs like any other. See sign up.
