Your hours
My Hours on your profile carries a running total you can show a school, a court, or an employer, and every shift behind it. A switch above the list reads All time or This year.
Where hours come from
Two ways, and the difference decides how quickly they count:
- An organizer confirms you attended. The hours appear by themselves, credited from the shift length the opportunity posted, and the entry says who verified them.
- You log them yourself. A Log hours button appears on any opportunity you have joined. What you file waits for the organization to approve it, unless they have set self-reports to approve automatically.
Guests you brought are shown as a badge on the entry rather than folded into your own total. Your total is your hours. The organization’s report counts your guests separately.
Logging hours
The form asks four things, and only the first two matter:
- Date volunteered, defaulting to today, and never in the future.
- How long, as a single duration. Organizations choose how it is entered, so you will see either a decimal box (“6.5”) or hours plus a minutes dropdown of 0, 15, 30 and 45. Both store the same thing, and self-reported time goes in quarter hours.
- Note, optional, for anything the organization should know.
- Add my location, optional. One tap attaches where you were as evidence. It is never required, it never blocks anything, and if your device refuses the claim files without it.
Reading the states
| State | What it means |

| Counted | Confirmed by an organizer, or a claim they approved. It is in your total, and the entry names who verified it. |
| Awaiting approval | You logged it and the organization has not decided yet. Not counted. |
| Not approved | The organization did not recognise the claim, with their reason underneath. Not counted, and worth asking them about. It clears from the list after thirty days. |
While a claim is awaiting approval you can edit or delete it. Once approved, it locks.
When you stayed longer than was credited
Adjust hours on a counted entry files the difference as a new claim. Your existing approved hours keep counting the whole time it is under review, so asking for an adjustment never costs you what you already had.
Hours with an organization that is not on Kanu
Log hours for an org not on Kanu sits above the list. It opens the same form with one extra field, Organization name, which you type in rather than picking from a list.
This is the route for Key Club, court-ordered service, SNAP work requirements, and anything else done with a group that has not listed itself here. There is no organization to review it, so Kanu Hawaii reviews these directly. Once approved the entry reads Verified by Kanu Hawaii and counts like any other.
These never approve automatically, and they take longer than a claim to an organization that is already on the platform.
If your hours are wrong
Ask the organization first, using the contact on the opportunity. They are the ones who confirm attendance, so they are the ones who can fix it. Only they know whether you were there. For off-platform hours, ask volunteer@kanuhawaii.org.
